Set in 1976 San Francisco, Ivy Ling a second-generation Chinese-American tries to find the balance between her two cultural identities. Her traditional parents' value preserving their family's rich heritage. They insist she go to Chinese school every Saturday and help out at her grandparents' restaurant. However Ivy much rather be pursuing her passion for gymnastics and spending time with her all-American best friend, Julie Albright. Meanwhile, Julie is caught in the middle of her parents' divorce and desperately wants her family to learn how to be together. When Ivy's All-City Gymnastics Tournament lands on the same night as her family's big Chinese New Year's dinner, Ivy must decide which to attend. She's worked hard in gymnastics and can't let her team down. But at the same time, her entire family is flying in to celebrate the holiday together -- something that's never happened before. Is there any way she can make everyone happy?
