The episode opens with a distress call from a battleship called the Republic, which was lost during the Nietzschean Uprising and was presumed destroyed. The crew of the Andromeda Ascendant, led by Captain Dylan Hunt, responds to the distress call and sets out to investigate the wreckage of the Republic.
As they approach the wreckage, they discover that the Republic was not destroyed, but was in fact salvaged by a group of scavengers. Among the scavengers is a man named Tarn Vedra, who claims to be the last surviving member of the crew of the Republic. Vedra is able to provide the crew of the Andromeda with valuable intel about the Nietzschean Uprising, including the location of a key strategic stronghold of the Nietzscheans.
The crew of the Andromeda decides to team up with Vedra to launch a surprise attack on the Nietzschean stronghold. With Vedra's help, they are able to breach the stronghold and destroy the Nietzschean fleet, which turns the tide of the war in favor of the Commonwealth.
However, during the battle, Vedra is killed and it is revealed that he was not actually the last surviving member of the crew of the Republic. The real last survivor is a woman named Cartheris, who was Vedra's partner and lover. Cartheris reveals that Vedra was not actually interested in helping the Commonwealth, but was using them to gain access to the Nietzschean stronghold so that he could steal the supplies and sell them on the black market.
The crew of the Andromeda is left feeling betrayed by Vedra's deception, but they are able to salvage some valuable intel from the Nietzschean stronghold and bring an end to the Nietzschean Uprising. The episode ends with Captain Hunt reflecting on the cost of war and the sacrifices that must be made in order to achieve victory.
