The New Normal is the sixth episode of the eleventh season of the American police procedural drama television series, Blue Bloods. The series revolves around the Reagans, a family of police officers with close ties to each other as well as the law enforcement community of New York City.

In this episode, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), the head of the district attorney’s office, is offered a job as a judge. She initially refuses the proposal as she is busy with her work, but her boss, DA Kimberley Crawford persuades her to reconsider. Meanwhile, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) investigate a case of a drag queen who was brutally attacked and are surprised by the victim’s nonchalant attitude towards the crime. On the other hand, Frank (Tom Selleck), the police commissioner, is faced with an issue when officers refuse to wear body cameras due to privacy concerns.

The episode begins with Erin getting a call from Judge Spencer, who offers her a job as a judge. With a lot on her plate, Erin initially refuses the job, but her boss likes the idea of her working on the bench and convinces her to take it up. As a result, Erin agonizes over the decision as it will put her in an unfamiliar terrain but at the same time will allow her to make a notable contribution.

Meanwhile, Danny and Baez investigate a case of a drag queen who was beaten up badly. As they dig deeper into the investigation, they realize that the victim doesn't want to go through the legal process as it could lead to complications in her professional life. The victim, who goes by the name of Velvet Nails, tells the detectives that she doesn't want to involve the police as her employer is conservative and could terminate her job if they found out her true identity. However, Danny and Baez persist and eventually start to unravel the mystery behind the attack. The investigation leads them to a group of men who had a personal grudge against Velvet Nails.

Frank, on the other hand, tackles a pressing issue, which is his officers' reluctance to use body cameras. Despite their advantages, the officers are opposed to wearing them due to privacy concerns. Frank must weigh the pros and cons of the cameras and find a way to convince his officers to adopt them. He meets with officers from different precincts and discusses the benefits of body cameras. He also works to address their privacy concerns and demonstrates his faith in the officers' ability to use them appropriately.

Throughout the episode, the Reagan family is seen supporting each other and discussing each other's issues. Jamie (Will Estes), the youngest of the Reagan siblings and a police officer, helps his sister Erin make a decision about the judge position, while Henry (Len Cariou), the Reagan patriarch, helps Frank come up with a solution to the body camera problem. Moreover, the family also gathers for dinner, as is tradition on the show, and discusses the events of the day.

In conclusion, The New Normal is an episode that deals with relevant issues such as privacy concerns, self-identity and career goals. The Reagan family's close-knit values of love, loyalty, and support are once again on display, emphasizing that the family that works together, stays together. The episode highlights the challenges that come with balancing personal and professional life and the importance of having the right people around for support.
