The Blue Bloods season 9 episode 16 titled "Past Tense" brings a compelling story that will keep you hooked from start to finish. It follows the Reagan family, a family of cops, and their pursuit of justice in New York City.

The episode begins with Jamie Reagan, a police sergeant, and his partner Eddie Janko responding to a call for a hit and run accident. As they arrive at the scene, they find a man lying on the ground severely injured from the incident. A witness explains that the victim was hit by a vehicle which then sped off. Using their skills and experience, Jamie and Eddie begin investigating the incident, and soon they uncover a few leads to follow.

Meanwhile, Jamie's father, Frank Reagan, who also happens to be the Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, is dealing with a difficult case of his own. An old case from his early days as a cop has resurfaced, and he's feeling a sense of guilt, believing that he could have done more to help out the victim's family. Frank's moral compass is put to the test when he has to confront the fact that he wasn't objective enough in handling the case, and the consequences of his actions.

As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that there is more to the hit and run case than what meets the eye. Jamie and Eddie find themselves in a race against time to find out who the perpetrator is, and to bring them to justice. Meanwhile, Frank is fighting his own demons, trying to come to terms with the past. Together, the Reagan family works towards a common goal, and we see the strong bond and loyalty that ties them together, even in the face of adversity.
