The episode Pilot serves as an introduction to the main character of the show, Dr. Megan Hunt. Megan is a former neurosurgeon who has now turned to medical examining after an accident left her with a condition that left her hands shaky. Megan is seen to be a complex character with a sharp tongue and a no-nonsense attitude. Upon arriving at a crime scene where a young female jogger's body has been found, Megan's expertise is needed to determine the cause of death. In analyzing the body, Megan quickly realizes that the cause of death was not a heart attack, as was initially suggested by the cops. She finds several signs of foul play and requests permission to conduct an autopsy to get to the bottom of the case.

While Megan is used to being the one in charge, she finds that her new role as a medical examiner comes with a different set of challenges. She has to learn to work with law enforcement officers and navigate their bureaucratic processes without compromising the integrity of her findings. She is partnered with detective Bud Morris, a seasoned cop with a chip on his shoulder, who is hesitant to trust the new medical examiner. Despite initial tension between the two, they begin to develop a mutual understanding as they work together to solve the case.

Throughout the episode, we also get a glimpse into Megan's personal life. She is a recent divorcee still in the process of sorting out custody arrangements for her teenage daughter. Her ex-husband, who also happens to be a fellow doctor, often clashes with Megan over their differing parenting styles. Megan's strained relationship with her mother, who disapproves of her career choice, is also hinted at.

In addition to the investigation into the jogger's death, the show sets up several ongoing storylines. Megan's medical condition is a constant source of stress for her, and she is shown having to take medication to steady her hand before conducting the autopsy. Her relationships with her colleagues and family are also hinted at, setting the stage for further character development down the line. At the end of the episode, the case is wrapped up satisfactorily, but it's clear that there's much more in store for Megan Hunt as she takes on her new role as a medical examiner.

Overall, the pilot episode of Body of Proof sets the stage for a compelling crime procedural that places a strong emphasis on character development. The dynamic between Megan and Bud is intriguing, and there's a sense that there are many more layers to both characters that will be explored as the show goes on. While the main plotline of the episode itself is fairly standard fare for a crime show, the show's unique focus on a medical examiner as the lead character adds an interesting spin to the genre. Fans of shows like CSI or Law and Order are likely to find plenty to enjoy in this series.
