Ep 3. The Slump

Detective Jake Peralta is going through a "slump" in his work, having not solved a case in several days. Meanwhile, the rest of the precinct is preparing for the upcoming "Pie-Off" competition, where everyone will bring in their best pies to be tasted and judged. Captain Holt assigns a new case to Peralta, hoping it will snap him out of his slump: a bike thief who has been operating in the area.

At first, Peralta doesn't take the case seriously and decides to use it as an opportunity to goof off and do some ridiculous detective work. He and his partner, Detective Terry Jeffords, dress up as famous bike duo E.T. and Elliott and ride around on bicycles in an attempt to catch the thief. When that doesn't work, Peralta decides to take a more serious approach and goes undercover in a bike shop to try to catch the thief in the act.

Meanwhile, the Pie-Off competition is heating up with everyone bringing in their own specialty pies. Gina Linetti, the precinct's administrator, brings in a pie that everyone loves, causing her to become extremely confident and cocky about her cooking abilities. Sergeant Terry Jeffords brings in his grandmother's sweet potato pie, which is a hit with the judges. Detective Charles Boyle brings in a savory meat pie, which is also a crowd favorite.

As Peralta continues to work on the bike theft case, he starts to become more and more obsessed with trying to catch the thief. He stops sleeping and becomes irritable with his colleagues. Holt notices that Peralta is becoming too invested in the case and orders him to take a break.

Eventually, Peralta and Jeffords catch a break in the case when they discover that the thief has been selling the stolen bikes to a local pawn shop. They go undercover to buy a stolen bike from the thief, and are able to apprehend him and bring him to justice.

The Pie-Off competition comes to a close, and Gina is announced as the winner with her delicious pie. However, she becomes too cocky and decides to rub it in everyone's faces, causing them to turn on her. In the end, they all come together and enjoy the delicious pies without any animosity.
