The Funeral is the second episode of the third season of the hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show follows the antics of detectives in the 99th precinct of the NYPD, led by the quirky and talented Detective Jake Peralta.

In this episode, the precinct is reeling from the news that one of their own, Detective Kwazy Cupcakes, has passed away. Detective Cupcakes was a beloved member of the squad and a fixture in their annual Halloween heist competition. The team is determined to give him a fitting farewell.

However, things quickly go awry as the detectives get lost on their way to the funeral home. The GPS leads them to a horse stable instead of the funeral home, and the detectives find themselves in the middle of a horse race. Jake, in particular, is excited to be at the race and keeps getting distracted from his solemn duty.

Meanwhile, Captain Raymond Holt is dealing with his own grief over the loss of Detective Cupcakes. He is struggling to come to terms with the fact that someone he cared about has passed away, and is not sure how to properly express his emotions. As always, Terry Jeffords is there to help him through it.

Back at the horse race, the detectives finally make it to the funeral home, but things are still not going smoothly. They accidentally knock over the urn containing Detective Cupcakes' ashes, causing a hilarious chain of events as they try to retrieve them before they are lost forever.

Finally, the detectives make it to the cemetery for the funeral itself. There, they come face-to-face with the family and loved ones of Detective Cupcakes, and learn more about the man they had all worked alongside for so long. As they say their final goodbyes, the detectives realize that they have truly lost a member of their family.

The Funeral is a poignant and hilarious episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine that showcases the show's ability to balance humor and heart. While the loss of Detective Cupcakes is played for laughs at times, the episode never forgets the impact that loss can have on those left behind. Fans of the show will appreciate the way that The Funeral handles both the humor and the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a loved one.
