In the season 4, episode 21 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine entitled "Crime & Punishment," the squad is forced to confront their own biases when they are called to investigate a case involving a woman who has been accused of stealing, but claims she is innocent.
As the investigation unfolds, the detectives begin to realize that their preconceived notions about the suspect may have clouded their judgment, making them less objective in their approach to the case. Terry (Terry Crews) in particular, struggles with the fact that he may have racially profiled the suspect, and grapples with the implications of his actions.
Meanwhile, Jake (Andy Samberg) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) team up to track down a suspect who has been stealing cars, and end up in a high-speed chase that puts their lives on the line.
As the episode comes to a close, the team must come to terms with their own shortcomings, both as individuals and as a unit, and determine how they can move forward and grow from their experiences. "Crime & Punishment" is a thought-provoking and engaging episode that challenges not only the characters on the show, but also the audience watching at home.
