In the sixth episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine's fourth season, titled "Monster In The Closet," the precinct gets a new captain, Captain Kimberly Cavanaugh (Gina Gershon), who is a no-nonsense leader with a long history of reforming troubled departments.
However, things get off to a rocky start as Captain Cavanaugh is soon revealed to have a past association with Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), who feels uncomfortable about the situation. Meanwhile, Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) investigate a difficult case involving a complicated series of art thefts.
At the same time, Detective Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) is dealing with a personal issue as his son shows signs of having an imaginary friend, which he believes is a monster living in his closet. Desperate to help his son, Boyle turns to his closest friends in the precinct for advice and guidance.
As the episode progresses, the precinct must work together to solve both the art theft and the imaginary monster cases, all while navigating the challenges of having a new captain at the helm. With their trademark humor and heart, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine team rises to the occasion and proves once again that they are one of the best squads in the NYPD.
