It's the seventh episode of the fifth season of BBC's critically acclaimed period drama, Call the Midwife. Set in the late 1950s, the show revolves around a group of midwives and nuns who offer medical help and support to expectant mothers and young families in the deprived East London neighborhood of Poplar.

In this episode, the midwives are faced with new challenges as they navigate the changing social and medical landscape of the 1950s. Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) is asked to oversee the opening of a new mother and baby unit in a nearby hospital, which will provide a more advanced level of care for mothers and newborns. At the same time, she must deal with the emotional fallout of a young mother's decision to give up her newborn for adoption, as well as the trauma of a stillbirth.

Meanwhile, Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) takes on a difficult case when a young couple arrives at the clinic looking for help. The husband is suffering from syphilis, a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease that was still prevalent at the time, and the midwives must take precautions to prevent it from spreading to the wife and their unborn child. The situation is further complicated by the couple's resistance to the treatment, which could save their lives.

Elsewhere, Trixie (Helen George) finds herself drawn to a handsome dentist who visits the clinic, but she soon realizes that he has a secret past that he's struggling to overcome. As she tries to help him, she must confront her own fears and insecurities about love and commitment.

Throughout the episode, the midwives and nuns work tirelessly to provide compassionate care and support to the families of Poplar, even as they face daunting medical and social challenges. From helping a young mother cope with the pain of giving up her child, to combatting the stigma and shame of syphilis, to navigating the complex emotions of romance and loss, the midwives of Call the Midwife continue to offer hope and healing to those in need.

As always, the show features stunning period detail, heartwarming performances, and a powerful exploration of the social and medical issues of the time. With its moving storylines and rich characters, this episode of Call the Midwife is sure to delight and inspire fans of the show.
