In the bustling city of Shibuya, Tokyo, a timid high school student named Takumi Nishijou spends most of his days shut in his apartment, completely immersed in an alternate reality. With his computer as his sole companion, he finds solace in the artificial world of online gaming. Completely detached from his classmates and the world around him, Takumi leads a reclusive and introverted life.

One day, as Takumi passes by a local electronics store, he catches a glimpse of a bizarre newspaper article titled "New Generation Madness." Intrigued by the headline, he decides to pick up a copy, unaware that this small action would set off a chain of unpredictable events that would turn his monotonous existence upside down.

Back in his apartment, Takumi meticulously inspects the newspaper when suddenly it begins to emit a strange optical illusion. Startled by this unusual occurrence, he quickly dismisses it and carries on with his isolated routine. However, little does he know that this mysterious event would mark the beginning of a chilling conspiracy that he is unknowingly tangled in.

On his way, Takumi encounters a peculiar girl adorned in Gothic Lolita fashion, who appears to be talking to an invisible entity. Struck by her eccentric appearance and behavior, he cannot help but take a photo of her. However, she promptly notices his actions, challenging his motives and revealing an uncanny knowledge about his solitary lifestyle. Feeling exposed and unnerved, Takumi averts his gaze and hastily makes his way to the school.

Arriving at the school, Takumi is met by the enthusiastic Nanami, who warmly greets him and begins discussing the various festival attractions. However, his escape is short-lived, as he catches sight of the same Gothic Lolita girl who had confronted him earlier. Shockingly, she introduces herself as Shogun, an avatar from the online world that Takumi frequents. Perplexed and overwhelmed, he begins to question the blurred line between reality and the virtual realm.
