Clean House Season 1 Episode 21 The Star Family

  • March 16, 2005

The popular reality television show Clean House aired its first season in 2003 featuring an episode named "The Star Family" as the 21st episode. The episode revolves around a family who loves to express themselves by collecting various items and displaying them all around their house. However, their passion for collecting has led them into cluttering their space which has become unbearable for them, even difficult to walk through the house. As a result, the family volunteered for an expert home cleaning team from the show to help them deal with their cluttered mess.

The episode begins with a family introducing themselves as the Star family to the host of the show, Niecy Nash. The family consists of a couple and their two children aged eleven and thirteen. Mr. and Mrs. Star explain that they love to collect a variety of items, and they have done so over many years, which has now piled up mess in every corner of their home. Some of their collections are toys, baseballs, books, and even shopping bags, which they have stacked up all around the house, making it difficult to navigate around the home. They spend countless hours just looking for and navigating through all the clutter, leading to chaos and a lot of stress.

In the first segment, the cleaning team walks through the house with the family and explores every cluttered corner, documenting some of the most inaccessible areas of the home. They find out that the Star family has stored their collections in very specific ways, which have made some rooms non-functional. For instance, the dad's baseball collection is occupying a whole room, making it impossible for anyone to use it as a playroom or a guest room. The house is not only cluttered but also unorganized which makes it a nightmare just to maintain.

Next, the team gathers all the items in bags and sorts them into various categories. They arrange piles of toys, teddy bears, books, and even shopping bags neatly on the living room floor and ask the family members to pick out what they really want to keep. This is where things get emotional as the family gets emotional about several items that have been collected over the years, some of which are treasured memories from their past. It's challenging for them to let go, but the team assures them that this is precisely what they are doing - letting go of the clutter in their home and, in the process, creating space for healthier and happier living.

As the third segment begins, the team gets down to work, bringing in a dumpster to get rid of the clutter, and a cleaning team to deep clean the house. The crew starts with repairing and repainting the walls, fixing the broken shelves, and replacing the old curtains. They also redecorated the house with a brand new color scheme that is soothing and visually appealing. The team worked tirelessly to bring out the true beauty of the house that has been lost in the mess and clutter.

In the final part of the episode, the family and the team are gathered to show off the renovated and decluttered home. The family is awestruck and in disbelief by what they see. The clutter is gone, and in its place stood a beautiful and spacious home that they could not believe was theirs.

The episode ends with the Star family expressing their sincere gratitude to the team for bringing joy and beauty back into their home. They are happy to say that they now have a functional home with better air quality as they have gotten rid of dust, and most importantly, they have more time and are immensely happy that their home looks like something out of a magazine.

Overall, Clean House Season 1, Episode 21: "The Star Family" is a fantastic example of how the show was successful in helping families declutter their homes by offering practical solutions to help them build healthier and happier homes.
