Five bodies are found in small-town Arizona. The team is sent to investigate including Dr. Spencer Reid, who grew up in the area. They quickly discover that the victims were poisoned and were connected through a local church. The team interviews members of the church and tries to piece together the motive behind the murders. As they get closer to the truth, they realize that the killer may be closer than they think.
The team discovers that one of the victims was a whistleblower who had evidence of financial wrongdoing by the church. They delve deeper into the financial records and uncover a web of corruption within the church, including embezzlement and money laundering. The team suspects that the killer is someone within the church who was afraid of being caught.
Meanwhile, Dr. Reid has a personal connection to the case. He reconnects with an old friend from high school who is now a member of the church. As they catch up, Reid starts to suspect that his friend may be involved in the murders. He struggles with the idea of turning in someone he has known for so long.
The team races against time to catch the killer before they strike again. They discover that the killer is hiding in plain sight and has been using their position within the church to cover up their crimes. The team ultimately catches the killer and brings them to justice.
In addition to the main plotline, the episode also delves into the personal lives of the team members. Agent Hotchner deals with a difficult decision regarding his son, while Agent Morgan tries to mend a relationship with his father. The episode ends on a poignant note as the team reflects on the importance of family and the sacrifices they make in their line of work.
