On a Texas stakeout, Cross and Kayla team with Homeland Security to catch their suspect. But even as their connection grows, the mission results in a greater realization of what brought the suspect to Texas in the first place. Shaken by what he's seen, Sampson heads back to D.C. and must reconcile elements from his past coming to light. Down in Mexico, the vigilante's good intentions can't overshadow her deadly mission.

With meticulous planning, the vigilante killer demonstrates her need for justice by claiming another victim. Cross and Kayla attempt to find the man whose haunting grin they saw on security footage. Ultimately, their search takes them to Chicago. Sampson, still raw from his recent revelation, confronts Cross about what he knew. Kayla's personal mission encounters a tragedy, leading her to turn to an old accomplice.

Season Two, titled "Bitter Fruit," starts with a question: Who is the mysterious vigilante killing American billionaires? Business titan Lance Durand calls the FBI for protection after receiving a death threat-one that links him to the murder of a billionaire playboy. Detective Alex Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig lead a new joint mission to protect Durand and to find the killer, who leaves behind gruesome clues. Meanwhile, John Sampson, Cross' partner and longtime friend, makes an unexpected connection.
