In Cutthroat Kitchen season 1 episode 7, called "Tiny Tools, Big Problems", four chefs compete in a series of culinary challenges with a twist. The contestants are each given $25,000 at the start of the show to use in an auction-style bidding process, where they can purchase sabotage items to use on their opponents.
The episode starts with host Alton Brown introducing the four chefs and revealing the first challenge. The contestants must create a dish using ingredients commonly found in a gas station. In addition, the chefs must use tiny tools, such as a potato peeler or butter knife, to prepare their dish.
As the contestants begin to cook, the bidding starts. Each chef is given the opportunity to bid on sabotage items that they can use on their competitors. These items range from harmful tools, such as a mini blowtorch or an onion goggle, to rules that can hamper their opponents, such as a prohibition on tasting their dish until the end of the competition.
In the first round, one chef struggles to open a can of Vienna sausages with his tiny tool. Another contestant gets burned by a mini blowtorch while attempting to sear his dish. However, despite the challenges, the chefs come up with inventive and delicious creations, including a gas station sushi and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with an added twist.
After the judges taste all the dishes, Alton Brown reveals the results and announces which chef will be eliminated. The remaining three chefs move on to the next round, where they face a new challenge and more sabotages.
The next challenge is a dessert round, where the chefs must use gas station snacks to create a sweet dish. In addition, they must use oversized tools, such as a large fork or whisk, to prepare their dessert.
The bidding for sabotages gets even more intense, with one chef choosing to spend almost all of their money on a single item. Another chef ends up with a huge whisk that proves to be difficult to handle while making their dish.
Despite these challenges, the contestants once again manage to impress the judges with their creations. One chef makes a candy bar trifle with a surprising ingredient, while another comes up with a sweet and salty popcorn pudding.
After the judges taste all the desserts, Alton Brown reveals the winner of the competition and awards them the remaining money. However, the real winners are the viewers, who get to see the creative and entertaining ways that the chefs manage to overcome the obstacles thrown their way.
"Tiny Tools, Big Problems" is a fun and exciting episode of Cutthroat Kitchen that showcases the creativity and skill of the contestants. It also provides a glimpse into the cutthroat world of competitive cooking, where anything can happen and sabotage is just a bid away.
