Cutthroat Kitchen is an American cooking competition show where four chefs battle it out in a culinary competition filled with sabotages, bidding, and strategic gameplay. In the season 13 finale episode titled "Tournament of Terror: Finale," the three remaining tournament champions face off for the grand prize of $75,000.
The episode opens with the three finalists: Chef Brianna, Chef Dana, and Chef Eduardo. Host Alton Brown announces that the final battle will take place over three rounds, with each round being a different course. The chefs are given $25,000 at the start of the episode, but throughout the rounds, they will face numerous challenges in which they must bid on sabotages or earn money by winning mini-games, all while trying to create the winning dishes.
The first round begins and the chefs must create an appetizer using a mystery basket of ingredients that includes geoduck, sea urchin, and chardonnay. However, just as they start cooking, Alton drops a major twist: they have to complete a mini-game in order to collect their ingredients. The mini-game involves a massive spider web, with each section filled with different ingredients. The chefs must navigate the web blindfolded and then face off in a trivia quiz to determine their place in line to collect their ingredients. To make matters worse, Brianna uses her advantage from winning the last round to send competitors to the back of the line.
With their ingredients collected, the chefs must now face the sabotages in the bidding war. Among the sabotages are swapping some of their ingredients, losing access to their ovens, and even forcing their opponents to cook with a blackened pan. Despite the many obstacles, the chefs manage to create stunning appetizers, each with a creative twist on the ingredients.
Round two begins, and the chefs must create a pasta dish using a selection of unusual ingredients such as lamb bacon, licorice root, and mushrooms. But before they can start cooking, they must complete another mini-game, this time involving a haunted house where they must find their assigned ingredients within a maze while avoiding scare tactics. Chef Eduardo comes out on top in the mini-game, giving him first pick of ingredients and the ability to sabotage his opponents.
With their ingredients in hand, the chefs begin cooking, but once again, they face a multitude of sabotages, including having to cook with one hand tied behind their backs, trading their pasta for ramen noodles, and even having to make their pasta from scratch in only 5 minutes. Despite the challenges, all three chefs produce delicious pasta dishes that impress the judges.
The final round commences, and the chefs must create a dessert using ingredients such as black garlic, tahini, and bananas. However, before they can start cooking, Alton has one more twist up his sleeve: the chefs must participate in a potion-making competition to determine the order of ingredient selection. Chef Dana comes out on top, giving her an advantage in the final round.
As they start cooking, the chefs face their toughest sabotages yet. Some of the sabotages include cooking their desserts with a candle, creating a dish without any desserts, or even cooking alongside audience members. The chefs must use all their skills to overcome these obstacles and create the ultimate dessert.
Finally, it is time for the judges to taste the dishes and determine a winner. After all the challenges and sabotage, the judges are impressed with the level of creativity and innovation displayed by the three finalists. They are judged based on taste, presentation, and how well they incorporated the unusual ingredients.
As the judges deliberate, the contestants anxiously wait for the final decision. In the end, only one chef can be crowned the champion of the "Tournament of Terror." Who will it be? Watch "Cutthroat Kitchen" season 13 episode 17 "Tournament of Terror: Finale" to find out.
