Dear Genevieve Season 1 Episode 6 Espositos' Basement

  • February 16, 2009

Dear Genevieve was a popular home design show that aired on HGTV in the early 2010s. Each episode, host Genevieve Gorder helped homeowners transform a room in their house into their dream space. In season 1 episode 6, titled "Espositos' Basement," Genevieve visited the home of the Esposito family in Bayside, New York to tackle their dark, cluttered basement.

As Genevieve entered the Esposito's home, she was greeted by the family's three adorable children and their dog. The family wanted to turn their basement into a space that could serve multiple purposes - a playroom for the kids, a hangout spot for the adults, and a guest room for out-of-town visitors. Genevieve was up for the challenge and excited to get started.

The basement was currently being used as a storage space and was filled with boxes, old furniture, and memorabilia. Genevieve quickly saw that the room had great potential - it had high ceilings, large windows, and a working fireplace. But first, she had to clear out all of the clutter and start from scratch.

To make the space multifunctional, Genevieve decided to divide the room into three zones - a play area for the kids, a lounge area with a bar for the adults, and a guest room with a comfortable sleeper sofa. She started by painting the walls a light gray color and adding new flooring. She then added a custom-built "playhouse" for the kids, which was essentially a large wooden structure with a climbing wall and a slide. The playhouse was built into the wall and had a door that could be closed when not in use.

For the lounge area, Genevieve installed a custom-built bar with a mini-fridge and shelving for glasses and bottles. She added comfortable seating options, including a sectional sofa and bean bag chairs. She also hung a large flat-screen TV on the wall and added fun accessories like a foosball table and dartboard.

In the guest room area, Genevieve chose a neutral color palette and added a sleeper sofa with colorful accent pillows. She also added a dresser for storage and a cozy armchair for reading.

Throughout the space, Genevieve added fun and playful touches, like a chalkboard wall for the kids to draw on and a colorful wall mural. She also added plenty of storage options, including built-in shelves and cabinets.

When the space was complete, the Esposito family was thrilled with the transformation. The kids couldn't wait to play in their new playhouse, and the adults were excited to have a dedicated space for entertaining. Genevieve had successfully transformed a cluttered basement into a multi-functional space that the whole family could enjoy.

Overall, "Espositos' Basement" was an inspiring episode of Dear Genevieve that showed how a little creativity and hard work can turn any space into a functional and beautiful room. Genevieve's vision and attention to detail resulted in a space that was both fun and stylish.
