Based on the book The Day The World Came To Town, Diverted takes place in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada after the Twin Towers were hit on September 11, 2001. When the terrorist attack occurred, 38 planes that were supposed to land in New York City were instead diverted to the airport in this small city of 9,000.
