Dr. Phil Show Season 9 Episode 46 Fight Over Teens' Baby

  • November 8, 2010

Kim and her husband, Darryl, are at odds with their son, Glen, and his girlfriend, Ashley, over the care of their grandson, Aiden. Kim and Darryl believe that Ashley is an unfit mother and that Glen is not doing enough to provide for the baby. Ashley, on the other hand, feels that she is being unfairly judged and that Kim and Darryl are interfering too much in their lives.

During the show, Dr. Phil attempts to mediate the conflict between the two families. He talks to each person individually to get a better sense of where they're coming from and what they hope to achieve by coming on the show. He listens to their concerns and tries to find common ground that everyone can agree on.

One of the main issues that comes up is money. Kim and Darryl accuse Glen of not paying enough child support, while Glen argues that he doesn't have the means to pay more. Dr. Phil asks Glen to explain his financial situation in more detail, and it becomes clear that he is struggling to make ends meet. He works long hours at a low-paying job, and he's also trying to finish his education so that he can provide a better life for his family. Meanwhile, Ashley is currently unemployed and relies on Glen for financial support.

Kim and Darryl acknowledge that they didn't fully understand the financial stress that Glen and Ashley are under. They are willing to help out more and to be more understanding of their situation. They also express their desire to be more involved in Aiden's life, but they agree to do so in a way that is respectful of Glen and Ashley's boundaries.

Dr. Phil also addresses some of the underlying emotions that are driving the conflict. He talks to Ashley about her feelings of insecurity and resentment towards Kim and Darryl, and he helps her to see that they are not trying to take over her role as a mother. He encourages all of the family members to speak openly and honestly about their emotions, and to avoid making assumptions about each other's motives.

Ultimately, the two families are able to come to a better understanding of each other's perspectives. They agree to work together to create a more stable and supportive environment for Aiden, and to put aside their differences for the sake of their grandson.
