Contractor and designer Chip Wade takes on another renovation challenge in the Elbow Room season 1 episode 2, "Unfinished Attic." In this episode, Chip transforms a barren and underused attic space into a beautiful and functional living area, complete with basic amenities such as a bathroom, bedroom, and a small kitchen.

The episode begins with Chip and his team inspecting the attic space, which was bare except for a small window on one side and a few beams. Chip's first task was to design the space and come up with a plan that would make the most out of the limited square footage. His design aimed to create a flexible and open living space by using creative storage solutions, concealed appliances, and sliding doors.

To achieve the open-plan design, Chip began by gutting the entire attic space, removing old insulation and drywall to expose the bare bones of the attic. He then began installing new electrical systems, plumbing, and insulation that would meet his design specifications. The new electrical system was designed with loads of overhead lighting, which would bring visibility to the poorly lit, previously unused attic space.

One of the major challenges in this renovation project was to deal with the slanted ceiling that followed the pitch of the roof. Chip tackled this issue with a variety of design ideas that included built-in storage, a platform bed, and large recessed shelving units.

In order to make the space feel larger and more efficient, Chip incorporated custom-made walk-in closet space that would serve as a wardrobe area and storage. The closets were built into the angled portion of the ceiling, and this design created additional space that would have otherwise been unused.

In addition to the living area, Chip also created a bathroom that included a shower and modern fixtures. He incorporated a vanity sink and built-in storage to maximize space. The bathroom is located adjacent to the bedroom, which is elevated on a platform that uses extra space created by the slanted ceiling.

The highlight of the renovation is the open kitchen area that combines function and style. To maximize the storage space, Chip installed a dishwasher, sink, mini-fridge, and microwave oven behind a large sliding door. This design has a dual purpose - it offers a clean and uncluttered look, and it hides the kitchen appliances when they are not in use.

The kitchen also features a trendy marble collection countertop and a stylish backsplash with out-of-the-box color combinations. The designer cabinets and open shelving were made from reclaimed oak that complements the overall look of the attic space.

As with all of his design projects, Chip was able to transform the previously unused and underutilized attic space into a practical and stylish living area. The finished living space boasts a sumptuous and tranquil environment that is appealing to the eyes and usable. The final product is the perfect combination of beautiful, functional, and modern design suited for anyone looking to add more living space to their home.
