Ep 4. Meant to Be

Ray and Debra are in a rut in their marriage and have been arguing a lot lately. Meanwhile, Frank is always telling Ray how lucky he is to have Debra as his wife and how he never thought he would end up with someone so good for him. Ray starts to feel guilty for taking Debra for granted and decides to plan a romantic weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast. However, as soon as they arrive, things start to go wrong. The room they booked is terrible and the owner of the bed and breakfast, played by guest star Doris Roberts, is overbearing. Ray and Debra are constantly sniping at each other and can't seem to enjoy their time away.

Back at home, Robert is trying to plan a surprise party for Amy's birthday but keeps getting thwarted by her nosy parents. He enlists the help of Marie to distract them and keep them from spoiling the surprise. Ray and Debra eventually have a heart-to-heart conversation and realize that they are meant to be together despite their differences and occasional arguments. They decide to make a conscious effort to appreciate each other more and enjoy the rest of their weekend. Meanwhile, Robert's surprise party for Amy is a success and she is thrilled with the effort he put in.

The episode deals with the ups and downs of marriage and the importance of communication and appreciation in a relationship.
