Ep 16. Lucky Suit

Ray Barone is a freelance sportswriter based in Long Island. He is a middle-aged guy with a wife, three kids, and parents who live across the street. Raymond's father, Frank, is an opinionated, hard-nosed man with a tendency to say what's on his mind, and his mother, Marie, is a constant critic who can't help but meddle in her children's lives. Raymond's brother, Robert, is a divorced police sergeant who isn't afraid to share his feelings with Raymond, while avoiding his own personal problems.

In this episode, Raymond is having some good luck with his freelance writing and is invited to a sports event in Atlantic City. Excited for the new and promising opportunities, Raymond starts getting ready for the trip and decides to wear an old suit of his father, which he considers his lucky suit. However, Ray is unable to fit into the suit as it’s been years since the last time he wore it.

Determined to make the suit fit him, Ray decides to go on a diet and exercise regimen. Along with his brother Robert, Raymond starts going to the gym, avoiding unhealthy foods, and jogging every day. However, the more he tries, the harder he seems to struggle as the suit simply refuses to fit him.

While the Barone brothers work on their fitness, Robert becomes increasingly obsessed with a woman he met at the gym and tries to make a move on her. He ends up getting rejected and the experience left him feeling humiliated and emasculated. Raymond tries to comfort him but ends up getting frustrated and angry with Robert, believing he isn’t putting enough effort into bettering himself.

Back home, Raymond's wife Debra is also having problems of her own. She is attending a school board meeting where she's fighting to keep a playground open, but her ideas are being shot down by a sexist school board member. With Debra feeling defeated and Raymond still struggling to fit into his lucky suit, the Barone family's luck seems to be down.

Despite their troubles, Robert and Raymond push through their issues and continue trying to better themselves. Raymond eventually finds success and is able to fit into his lucky suit, and with Debra's persistence, the playground is ultimately saved. The Barones' luck turns around and things start looking up for the family.

In the end, the episode demonstrates the importance of setting goals and working towards them, even if it's difficult. It also shows the value of perseverance, and how a little bit of luck can be attributed to a lot of hard work.
