In episode 7 of Flip or Flop season 3 titled "Freeway Flip," hosts Tarek and Christina take on a challenging house flip in the city of La Puente, California. The property is located right next to a busy freeway, making it a difficult sell for potential homebuyers. The house itself is small, outdated, and in need of significant renovations.
Tarek and Christina start by demolishing the inside of the house and removing some of the walls to create a more open floor plan. They also give the exterior of the house a much-needed facelift by repainting the exterior and adding new landscaping.
As they begin to work on the inside of the house, Tarek and Christina discover that the ceiling has significant water damage and needs to be completely replaced. This unexpected expense sets them back both in terms of time and money, which forces them to cut back on some of their original renovation plans.
Despite the setback, Tarek and Christina continue to push forward with the project. They install new kitchen cabinets, countertops, and appliances, as well as a new bathroom vanity and shower. They also create a focal point in the living room with a unique feature wall made of reclaimed wood.
As they near the end of the project, Tarek and Christina encounter another issue - the driveway leading up to the house is too steep and needs to be leveled out. They hire a contractor to fix the driveway, which puts them even further over budget than they had anticipated.
In the end, Tarek and Christina finish the project and put the house on the market. While they receive some initial interest, the property's location next to the freeway continues to be a major obstacle, and they ultimately have to drop the sale price significantly in order to close the deal.
Despite the challenges they faced throughout the project, Tarek and Christina are proud of the work they completed on the "Freeway Flip." They learned valuable lessons about budgeting, time management, and working with unforeseen obstacles.
