In Forensic Files season 1 episode 4, titled "A Bite out of Crime," viewers are taken through a complex and chilling murder investigation. The episode centers around the brutal killing of a young woman named Mary Mount in her apartment in Tampa, Florida. Her body was discovered by her friend and coworker, Robin Hoefler, who had been trying to contact Mary for several days before visiting her apartment.

Upon arriving at the scene, detectives found that Mary had been stabbed multiple times and her body had been savagely bitten. Blood was everywhere and it was clear that the killer had engaged in a fierce struggle with the victim. The investigation was immediately put into high gear and a team of forensic experts was assembled to gather evidence and try to identify the killer.

One of the key pieces of evidence collected at the scene was a bite mark on Mary's arm. The medical examiner on the case, Dr. Russell Sacco, was able to use his expertise to determine the size and shape of the bite and create a plaster cast of the mark. This bite mark would later prove to be an essential piece of evidence in solving the case.

As the investigation progressed, detectives and forensics experts continued to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses. One of the people they spoke to was Mary's ex-boyfriend, Robert Coney, who had a history of violent behavior and had been arrested several times. Detectives also spoke to a neighbor of Mary's, whose story would eventually help to break the case wide open.

Despite their best efforts, the investigation was stalled for several weeks until a vital piece of evidence was discovered. DNA testing had just become available and blood samples found at the crime scene were sent to the lab for analysis. The results revealed that the blood belonged to an unknown male, which meant that the killer was still at large.

Several more weeks went by before a breakthrough in the case occurred. The neighbor detectives had interviewed earlier, Linda, came forward with a shocking confession. She revealed that she had seen Robert Coney leaving Mary's apartment on the day of the murder and that he had blood on him. Linda had initially been too scared to tell police what she had seen, but her conscience eventually got the better of her.

With Linda's testimony, detectives were able to bring in Robert Coney for questioning. During the interview, Coney denied any involvement in the murder and claimed that he had not seen Mary in weeks. However, when detectives pointed out the bite mark evidence and the fact that his DNA was a match to the blood found at the crime scene, Coney eventually confessed to the murder.

The resolution of the case was a result of the tireless work of law enforcement and forensic experts, who were able to use cutting-edge technology and scientific methods to gather evidence and identify the killer. The episode "A Bite out of Crime" is a testament to the importance of forensic evidence in solving criminal investigations and underscores the vital role played by the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting their communities.
