The Truth Behind Truths is the 19th episode of the first season of Fullmetal Alchemist. In this episode, the Elric brothers return to Central with their new information on the Philosopher's Stone. However, they are confronted by Maes Hughes, who has information of his own that he believes is just as significant. The three of them decide to meet privately in order to share their findings.
Meanwhile, Scar continues his quest to confront and kill State Alchemists, one by one. Back in their meeting with Hughes, the Elric brothers and Hughes share their information and discover a shocking truth about the Philosopher's Stone and its connection to human lives. They also learn about a mysterious figure known as "Father" who is said to control everything from the shadows.
With this new information, the Elric brothers are forced to question their own actions and motives when it comes to the Philosopher's Stone. They must decide whether to continue their quest for its power or to let go of their desires and pursue another path.
