Galaxy Express 999 Season 1 Episode 32

Ep 32. Broken Planet in the Time Ceased Dimension

  • April 26, 1979

As the Galaxy Express 999 hurtles through space, Tetsuro and Maetel find themselves coming across a distress signal emanating from what appears to be a completely broken planet. Upon landing, they discover a wasteland where nothing can grow and the few surviving inhabitants are terrorized by a group of merciless bandits.

Despite the bleakness of the situation, Tetsuro is determined to help the people of the broken planet. In his efforts to do so, he learns about the unique properties of the planet that have led to its current condition. The planet exists in a "time ceased dimension," causing all life to age and decay at an accelerated rate. The bandits, realizing that the planet's people were doomed to die soon anyway, have taken advantage of their despair and robbed them of their meager belongings.

As Tetsuro and Maetel investigate further, they discover that the planet is even more unusual than they had first thought. The time ceased dimension is causing not only the physical decay of the planet, but also a decay of its very essence. The people have slowly lost their own essence, causing them to become pessimistic, lethargic, and even savage in some cases.

Tetsuro is undeterred by the difficulties of the situation, and manages to convince the people to fight for their beliefs and values. His words give them hope, and they unite to defeat their oppressors. But in their moment of triumph, they face a new dilemma. With the planet's unique time properties, they realize that they have very little time to evacuate before the planet disintegrates completely.

The scenario poses some difficult questions for Tetsuro, who is forced to confront the limited nature of life itself. Despite the sadness brought on by the planet's destruction, Tetsuro is glad to have helped the people and bolstered their spirits before they were forced to leave their world forever.

The episode deals with some deep themes, including the nature of life, time, and the value of helping those in need. The unique properties of the planet lead to a world constantly in flux, and the characters are forced to deal with the consequences of their decisions in a rapidly changing environment. Yet through it all, the episode manages to remain hopeful, emphasizing the value of individual acts of kindness and the unifying power of hope.
