Garfunkel & Oates is a comedy series that aired on the IFC network. The show follows Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, playing exaggerated versions of themselves. Both are musicians who perform as the comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates. The show typically features their misadventures as they navigate the Los Angeles music scene and attempt to make a name for themselves.

In season 1, episode 2, titled "Rule 34," Garfunkel and Oates find themselves in a bind when their internet video goes viral. The song, "The Loophole," is about a religious girl who decides to save herself for marriage, but finds a way to still have sex without breaking her vow of chastity. The song becomes a hit on YouTube, and it’s shared widely across the internet.

As a result of the song's success, Garfunkel and Oates find themselves in an unfamiliar situation: they’re being recognized in public, showered with free merchandise and even offered their own reality TV show. However, they soon realize that their newfound fame has a downside. The public starts to scrutinize their every move, making Garfunkel and Oates feel like they can't be themselves.

Things get worse when the duo discovers that their raunchy and controversial song has been turned into a pornographic film. This is where the episode's title, "Rule 34," comes into play. Kate's character explains the internet meme, which states that "If it exists, there is porn of it." Garfunkel and Oates are appalled that their song has become the subject of such graphic content, and they attempt to take it down.

Their attempts to remove the video from the internet prove to be fruitless, and they’re soon forced to confront the reality that they’ve lost control of their own content. This leads them to question whether their music is actually sending the right message and whether their controversial songs are actually worth it.

In true Garfunkel and Oates fashion, the episode is packed with witty one-liners, quirky gags, and plenty of musical performances. Overall, "Rule 34" is a fun and relatable episode that highlights the pitfalls of internet fame and the importance of maintaining creative control.
