Garfunkel & Oates is a musical comedy series that follows the adventures of two girl friends, Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, as they navigate life and love in Los Angeles. In season 1, episode 3 titled "Speechless," the girls face a new challenge as they are asked to perform at a benefit for children with speech impediments.

As the episode opens, Riki and Kate are excited to be asked to play their music for a good cause. However, they quickly realize that they don't know how to adapt their lyrics to a younger audience, and they worry that their usual irreverent style won't be appropriate for the kids.

Their fears are compounded when they attend a meeting with the organizers of the benefit, who tell them that the children they will be performing for have a wide range of speech disorders, including stuttering, apraxia, and dysarthria. They also learn that the children, some of whom are as young as five years old, will be in the audience.

Riki and Kate are not sure how to proceed. They try to come up with ideas for more child-friendly songs, but everything they come up with seems either too simplistic or too inappropriate. They also worry that they won't be able to connect with the children and that their jokes and banter won't be funny to a younger crowd.

As they struggle to find the right balance, they begin to doubt their ability to perform at all. They begin to question their own lyrics and wonder if they are too adult-oriented. They even consider canceling the show altogether, but ultimately decide to go through with it.

As showtime draws near, Riki and Kate rehearse their new songs and try to incorporate some of the feedback they received from the organizers. They also try to come up with new material that is age-appropriate but still fun and catchy.

When they take the stage, Riki and Kate are nervous, but they quickly settle into a rhythm. They perform a mix of their old songs and new ones, and they engage the children with jokes, stories, and interactive songs. They even invite some of the kids on stage to sing along with them.

As the show comes to a close, Riki and Kate are thrilled to see how well-received they were. They receive a standing ovation from the audience and are surrounded by children eager to meet them and take pictures. They feel proud of their performance and grateful for the opportunity to use their talents to make a difference.

In the end, Riki and Kate learn that even when performing for a new audience, it's important to stay true to themselves and their style. They also realize that music has the power to bring people together, regardless of age or ability.
