After four episodes of intense plot development and character establishment, Get Shorty season 2 episode 4 We'll Let You Know brings the audience some much-needed comedic relief. The episode follows Miles, whose film ambitions, once again, take a back seat to familial obligations. Miles, the protagonist, is a character grounded on the foundation that everyone who knows him is better off for it. He is always on a quest to make a better life for himself by any means necessary. In this episode, the audience sees a kinder, gentler side to Miles as he faces off against an unlikely foe- his health.

We'll Let You Know introduces viewers to a few new characters. We meet Gladys, who has a vested interest in Lester, her husband's, health. She seeks the help of Miles to produce a documentary on medical marijuana and its benefits. Miles, not one to miss an opportunity, sees this as a chance to secure his future financially. Lester's involvement, however, is a complicated one. He doesn't want the general public to know he uses marijuana for medical purposes. Gladys convinces Miles to keep her husband's involvement under wraps, but Miles is not one to back down easily.

Another new character is Shoshana, Miles' ex-wife. We learn early on in the episode that Miles' daughter Eva is supposed to spend the weekend with her father but instead, is spending it with Miles' sister, who doubles as his assistant. Miles calls Shoshana to ask if he can see Eva, and while Shoshana has no problem with it, her new husband is uncomfortable with Miles' presence. This sets the backdrop for the episode's comedic elements. Miles' sister, named Emma, is probably the most amusing character in this episode. She is a free spirit with an eclectic sense of style and a careless attitude. Emma is the perfect example of someone whose priorities are misplaced, but through it all, she means well.

The main plotline partially takes a backseat in this episode as the focus shifts to Miles and his relationship with his family. That said, the episode is not short on drama, and the last fifteen minutes of the episode expertly build momentum that will leave the audience wanting more. As usual, the show succeeds in bringing the audience an ensemble cast that has strong chemistry, making each character's storyline important to the overall narrative. There are some moments that may feel like filler, primarily the scenes with Gladys and Lester. As integral as their storyline is, the narrative felt a little hodgepodge. Perhaps their storyline will pay dividends in later episodes, but it was given just enough attention to feel incomplete.

The comedic elements of this episode alone make it worth watching. The highlight of the episode is Emma's meddling in Miles' personal life. It's not that she doesn't care, but she is not great at reading social cues. When Miles asks her to watch Eva, she doesn't hesitate to weigh in on his love life. Emma is also the cause of Lester's involvement in the medical marijuana documentary, which adds another layer of humor that is too good to spoil.

Overall, Get Shorty season 2 episode 4 We'll Let You Know is an enjoyable episode that centers around Miles and his family. The plot development does not take center stage, making it a lighter episode with moments of comedy that perfectly balances the drama. Miles' personal journey feels authentic and emotionally honest, allowing the audience to connect with him on a deeper level. As always, the cast performs brilliantly and manages to successfully deliver another chapter in this engaging series.
