Hallmark Hall Of Fame Season 41 Episode 3 Miss Rose White

  • April 26, 1992

In Hallmark Hall of Fame season 41 episode 3, "Miss Rose White," viewers are transported back to the 1930s, where we meet Rose White (Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"), a Jewish immigrant who was sent to America as a child to escape the persecution of her people in Russia.

Now an adult, Rose lives in New York City, where she works as a translator for a Yiddish theater company and dreams of one day becoming a writer. However, Rose's plans are put on hold when she receives a letter from her long-lost, estranged sister, Lillie (Amanda Plummer, "Pulp Fiction").

Lillie, who has always resented Rose for being the favorite child, has fallen ill and needs Rose's help. Despite their difficult past, Rose decides to travel to Wisconsin to be with her sister.

Once there, Rose discovers that Lillie is dying of cancer and has a young daughter, Rachel (Kimberly Williams-Paisley, "Father of the Bride"), who was raised Catholic by Lillie's husband, a man who disapproved of Lillie's Jewish heritage.

As Rose helps Lillie and bonds with Rachel, she must also confront her own past and the heartbreaking events that drove her and Lillie apart. Concurrently, Rose strives to reconnect with her cultural roots and revive the Yiddish language that she holds so dear.

Through the course of "Miss Rose White," we witness the sisters' relationship evolve as they come to grips with their opposing personalities and ultimately find common ground. At times humorous and at other times heart-wrenching, the film is a poignant exploration of the ties that bind family together and the power of forgiveness.

Featuring stunning performances by Sedgwick and Plummer and a charming turn by Williams-Paisley, "Miss Rose White" is a must-see for any Hallmark Hall of Fame fan. The film offers a compelling look at a pivotal moment in U.S. history while simultaneously celebrating the unique joy and warmth of Jewish culture.
