It is the fourth episode of the first season of Halloween Cake-Off, and the theme for this episode is "Monster Wedding." The competition is fierce among the remaining bakers, as they are tasked with creating elaborate cakes that are both macabre and romantic.
The episode opens with the four bakers, who are all dressed in Halloween-themed attire, gathered around host Raven as she explains the rules for the challenge. They must each create a wedding cake that embodies the eerie, otherworldly love that exists between classic monster movie characters like Dracula and his bride, Frankenstein and his bride, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon and his love interest. As always, the cakes must be visually impressive, but they must also taste delicious.
The bakers have an hour and a half to create their cakes, and they set to work immediately. One baker, Sarah, opts for a Dracula-inspired cake that features a blood-red velvet cake with buttercream frosting and raspberry coulis filling. She plans to top the cake with a molded sugar sculpture of Dracula and his bride in their classic poses, complete with a billowing cape and pointy fangs.
Another baker, Javier, goes for a Creature from the Black Lagoon-inspired cake, using a green velvet cake with whipped cream frosting and kiwi filling to mimic the creature's scaly skin. He plans to top the cake with a molded sugar sculpture of the creature and his love interest embracing underwater.
Meanwhile, baker Brianna decides to take a risk and create a cake inspired by the 1954 horror classic Creature from the Black Lagoon. She uses fondant to mold the shape of the creature's head popping out of the water, and the rest of the cake serves as the water. The inside is also filled with jellyfish candy, which have been popular amongst the wedding guests.
Last but not least, Evan decides to create a cake inspired by Frankenstein's bride. Her cake represents the deconstructed bride with a black and white cake. He uses fondant to represent the bride with cutouts on the cake display and has the cake filled with a red velvet cream cheese filling.
As the bakers work on their cakes, they all face challenges. Sarah struggles with getting her sculpted figures to come out perfectly, and Javier has trouble getting the whipped cream frosting to hold its shape. Brianna's cake looks more like a novelty item than a wedding cake, and Evan has trouble with the stability and the cutouts of the cake.
In the final minutes of the challenge, the bakers rush to finish their cakes and get them on display, with nerves and adrenaline running high. After the judges sample the cakes and are wowed by the creativity, attention to detail, and outstanding flavor of the cakes, the winner is announced, and one baker is sent home.
Tune into Halloween Cake-Off season 1, episode 4, "Monster Wedding," to see which baker rises above the competition and whose monster-themed cake falls short.
