Hidden (2018) is a crime drama series that revolves around a young woman named DI Cadi John, played by Sian Reese-Williams, who returns to her home in Wales to investigate a missing person's case that seems to be related to her own past. Her team includes DS Owen Vaughan, played by Rhodri Meilir, and family liaison officer, DC Bethan Morgan, played by Gillian Elisa.

The show is set in the picturesque backdrop of the North Wales countryside, with the occasional dark and dreary weather acting as a perfect metaphor for the bleak and sinister affairs unfolding. A strong sense of unease and tension is created through the series with stunning cinematography that captures the stunning landscapes of North Wales as well as the gritty side of the region.

The story revolves around the disappearance of a young woman named Mali Pryce (played by Gwyneth Keyworth) in the fictional Welsh town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Cadi and her team soon realise that Mali's disappearance is linked to a decades-old case that Cadi has personal connections to.

The show does an excellent job of weaving personal and professional lives of its characters with the central mystery at hand. The characters are well fleshed out, and the actors deliver convincing and nuanced performances. Cadi is a strong, driven woman who is haunted by her past and suffers from insomnia. Her relationship with her father, who is suffering from dementia, is a recurring theme that adds depth and substance to her character.

DS Owen Vaughan is an essential part of the team, and his laid-back demeanour and offbeat sense of humour add a much-needed balance to the show's darker tones. Gillian Elisa, who plays DC Bethan Morgan, expertly portrays the pain, and emotional turmoil behind the mask of professionalism, as she tries to help families in their darkest hours.

Throughout the course of the series, the team uncovers numerous secrets that ripple throughout the small, tight-knit community they are tasked to protect. The show is expertly crafted, and the pacing and tension are maintained throughout the season. Although the show does not shy away from the darker elements of crime and the human condition, it is wrapped up in a sense of hope and redemption.

Ian Saynor, who plays DI Huw Parry, and Nia Roberts, who plays DCI Tessa Kilbridge, also deliver excellent performances, adding depth and layers to the plot. The supporting cast is equally impressive, with each actor bound to the plot and the community they represent, and they all deliver some memorable performances over the course of the four-season run.

In conclusion, Hidden is an excellent crime drama that is both engrossing and engaging. It boasts a strong cast of characters, a well-crafted plot, and stunning cinematography. The show explores the darker sides of human nature but is never without hope for healing and redemption. The series is crafted in a way that each season can be seen independently as well as part of the larger story, and each episode is a well-written standalone piece. If you are a fan of crime dramas, Hidden is a show that should not be missed.
