Ep 4. Backflash

In season 4 episode 4, titled "Backflash," the audience is taken on a journey through the past in order to better understand the present. The main character, known only as "the Guy," has several encounters with his customers that force him to reflect on his own history.

The episode begins with the Guy visiting a customer, Rosemary, who lives in a luxury apartment complex. We see the Guy in his younger years, working as a bike messenger in New York City and living in a cramped apartment with his girlfriend, Beth. The couple is struggling to make ends meet, but they are making it work until the Guy's history with drug use resurfaces. The Guy experiences a drug flashback and struggles to keep his addiction under control.

Back in the present day, the Guy attends a dinner party with his old friend, Max. Max is a wealthy businessman and is living a life that the Guy can only dream of. During the dinner party, Max reveals that he is unhappy with his life and is struggling to find meaning in his success.

The Guy reflects on his own realization that money and success does not always equate to happiness, especially when he sees the way Max's wife Karen is blatantly unhappy and unfulfilled. The Guy offers Max some sound advice, and the two friends find comfort in their shared experiences.

The Guy then runs into Beth, his ex-girlfriend, while working a delivery job. The two catch up and reminisce about their youth together. Beth reveals that she has moved on and is now living a life that she is happy with and is proud of. The Guy is genuinely happy for her and expresses his own desire to make positive changes in his life.

The episode ends with the Guy having a moment of clarity. He realizes that he needs to let go of his past and focus on the present in order to create a better future for himself. "Backflash" is a poignant episode that explores themes of regret, nostalgia, and the importance of growth and change.
