Faith Ford and Kelly Ripa star as Hope and Faith, two sisters who couldn't be more different. Hope is a stay-at-home mom with a loving husband and three kids, while Faith is a recently-released soap opera star, struggling to find work and rediscover herself. In this episode, entitled "The Dolly Mama," the sisters are thrown into a new adventure when they find out their mother is coming to town.
The episode begins with Hope and Faith preparing for their mother's arrival. Hope is excited to see her, while Faith is a bit more skeptical. When their mother, Claudia, finally arrives, she immediately starts bossing the sisters around and criticizing everything they do. She disapproves of Hope's parenting skills and thinks Faith should give up her acting dreams and settle down with a man. The sisters are getting fed up with Claudia's behavior, but they decide to keep quiet and try to be polite.
Meanwhile, the girls' father, Jack, is having some problems of his own. He's always been a bit of a ladies' man, but lately, he's been feeling lonely and wants to settle down with a nice woman. He decides to try online dating and sets up a profile. When Claudia finds out, she freaks out and tells him he's a disgrace for dating so soon after their divorce. Jack is hurt by Claudia's words, but he decides to go through with the date anyway.
At the same time, Hope is dealing with some issues of her own. She's been feeling overwhelmed by her responsibilities and wants to do something fun for herself. She decides to attend a Dolly Parton tribute show with her friend, Jay. She's hesitant at first, but she has a blast singing along to all the songs and dancing in the aisles.
Back at the house, the tension between Claudia and the sisters is starting to reach its breaking point. Claudia is angry that the girls aren't acting the way she wants them to, and the girls are fed up with her controlling behavior. Finally, they confront her and tell her how they feel. Claudia is taken aback by their honesty but eventually realizes that she's been too hard on them. She apologizes and tries to make amends.
The episode ends with Jack returning from his date, feeling excited about the potential for a new relationship. Hope comes home from the Dolly Parton show, feeling rejuvenated and alive. And the sisters and Claudia, while not without their issues, are finally starting to reach a place of understanding and acceptance.
