House Hunters Season 2012 Episode 47 In Search of Historic Charm or Modern Upgrades in the Gateway City

  • May 14, 2012

In this episode of House Hunters, we follow a couple on their search for a new home in the Gateway City, St. Louis. Their primary concern is whether they should go for a historic home with charm or a modern home with updated features.

The couple starts their search by visiting an 1800s Victorian-style home in the historic district of Lafayette Square. They are instantly drawn to the ornate details and character of the home, such as the original stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, and multiple fireplaces. However, they soon realize that the home needs a significant amount of work and renovations to meet their modern standards. While they love the historic charm, they worry about the potential costs and time needed to make the home functional.

Their next stop is a sleek and modern home in a newer development. They are impressed with the open layout, high ceilings, and the updated finishes throughout the home. The kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances and a large island perfect for entertaining. There is also a spacious backyard for their dog to run around in. However, they feel that the home lacks character and personality, and worries that it may not stand the test of time style-wise.

The couple then visits a 1920s bungalow in Tower Grove East neighborhood that has been completely renovated to include modern features such as new electrical wiring, updated plumbing, and central air. They are excited about its beautiful original features like stained-glass windows, a cozy fireplace, and a clawfoot tub. The updated kitchen features modern amenities, including a wine fridge, a gas stove, and a breakfast bar. While the home offers much of the historic charm they were looking for, the limited closet space and small bedrooms present a challenge.

They then discover a condo near the Delmar Loop area that offers a blend of modern and historic features. The brick building was constructed in 1914 and has been converted into modern condos. The unit they are interested in has an open floor plan, plenty of natural light, and a balcony with a view of the city. They love the convenience of the location and the modern updates, such as a walk-in closet and a modern kitchen. However, the historic charm is not as prevalent as in the other homes they visited.

The couple ultimately has a difficult time deciding between a historic home with charm or a modern home with updated features. They must weigh the pros and cons of each property while keeping in mind their budget and lifestyle needs.

Tune in to House Hunters to see which type of home the couple ultimately selects and how they plan to make it their own.
