  • October 7, 2013

In the first episode of Huang's World season 2, titled "Mongolia Part 1," host Eddie Huang travels to Mongolia to explore the country's culture and cuisine. The episode begins with Eddie arriving in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar and immediately immersing himself in the local culture by attending a traditional wrestling competition.

From there, Eddie sets out to discover more about the nomadic lifestyle of many Mongolians. He visits a family who lives in a traditional Ger, a portable tent-like structure that is a common dwelling in rural Mongolia. He learns about how they rely on their livestock, particularly camels, for food, clothing, and transportation.

Eddie also spends time with a Mongolian rapper who is attempting to preserve the country's traditional music while infusing it with modern hip-hop beats. He visits a music studio where the rapper creates music using a variety of instruments, including the horsehead fiddle and throat singing.

Throughout the episode, Eddie also indulges in some of Mongolia's most famous dishes, including buuz (steamed dumplings filled with meat), khorkhog (a lamb stew cooked with hot stones), and airag (fermented mare's milk).

The episode ends with Eddie setting off on a multi-day road trip through the countryside, where he meets more locals and learns about their way of life. Overall, "Mongolia Part 1" offers a fascinating glimpse into a country that is often overlooked by tourists, and showcases the incredible resilience and resourcefulness of its people.
