Lucy and John Wayne is the second episode of the fifth season of I Love Lucy, one of the most iconic television shows of all time. This episode originally aired on October 8th, 1956, and it features the legendary Hollywood actor John Wayne as a guest star.
The episode begins with Lucy (Lucille Ball) and her best friend Ethel (Vivian Vance) attending a movie premiere where they get to meet John Wayne. Lucy is starstruck and ends up getting Wayne's autograph on her forehead. When she realizes what she has done, she becomes worried about the repercussions and decides to try to wash it off.
Later that day, Lucy finds out that her husband Ricky (Desi Arnaz) has rented a cabin in the mountains for them to spend the weekend with John Wayne. However, when they arrive, Lucy discovers that she has forgotten to pack a change of clothes and has to improvise with what she can find.
As they wait for Wayne to arrive, Lucy decides to practice her sharpshooting skills and ends up accidentally shooting a hole in the cabin wall. Ricky tries to cover up the mistake by hanging a picture over it, but when Wayne arrives, the picture falls down and reveals the hole.
Throughout the episode, Lucy tries to impress John Wayne by showing off her skills, but her efforts always seem to backfire. For example, when she tries to ride a horse, it takes off running and leaves her behind. Meanwhile, Ethel tries to win Wayne's attention by wearing a revealing dress, but he doesn't seem to notice.
As the evening goes on, Lucy becomes increasingly nervous around Wayne and ends up spilling a bowl of gravy all over him. In an attempt to make up for it, she offers to make him dinner, but ends up burning everything in the process.
Despite all the mishaps, Lucy is able to redeem herself in Wayne's eyes when she saves him from a bear that wanders into the cabin. In the end, Wayne gives Lucy a kiss on the cheek and tells her that she's a real "trooper."
Lucy and John Wayne is a classic episode of I Love Lucy that showcases the show's trademark humor and slapstick comedy. With its iconic guest star, memorable moments, and hilarious hijinks, it's no wonder that this episode remains a fan favorite even after more than 60 years since it first aired.
