Interrogation is a compelling crime drama that chronicles the long and complex journey of a young man accused of murdering his mother. The show, which premiered on CBS All Access in 2020, takes a unique nonlinear approach to storytelling, with each episode presented from the perspective of a different character in the case. Viewers are encouraged to watch the episodes in any order they choose, as the series poses the question: is the young man truly guilty or has he been wrongly accused?

At the center of Interrogation is Eric Fisher, played by Kyle Gallner, a troubled and complicated young man who finds himself the prime suspect in the brutal murder of his mother. The show follows Eric's case over the course of several years, as new evidence is uncovered and witnesses come forward, all leading to the ultimate question of whether or not Eric is capable of committing such a crime.

Peter Sarsgaard stars as David Russell, the lead detective on the case, who becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about what happened to Eric's mother. Kodi Smit-McPhee also stars as Eric's best friend, who finds himself caught up in the investigation and questioned by the detectives. Additional members of the cast include David Strathairn, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

One of the elements that sets Interrogation apart from other crime dramas is its nonlinear approach to storytelling. Rather than presenting the case in a traditional, linear fashion, each episode is presented as a self-contained story that focuses on a specific aspect or character in the case. The order in which the episodes are watched, therefore, directly impacts the viewer's understanding of the case as a whole.

The show's creators, Anders Weidemann and John Mankiewicz, have said that they were inspired by the actual case of a man named Isauro Aguirre, who was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend's eight-year-old son Gabriel Fernandez. Aguirre's trial lasted for several years and was filled with numerous twists and turns, leading to questions over his guilt or innocence. Weidemann and Mankiewicz were intrigued by the idea of exploring how different versions of the truth can exist within a single case.

Throughout the series, viewers are presented with conflicting information and varying perspectives on the events surrounding Eric's case, ultimately forcing them to draw their own conclusions. At the core of the show is the question of what constitutes "truth," and whether there can ever be only one version of events in a criminal case.

Interrogation is a show that tackles complex themes of justice, truth, and morality, all while delivering a compelling and suspenseful crime drama. Its nonlinear storytelling approach keeps viewers engaged and guessing until the very end. With strong performances from a talented cast, led by the always excellent Peter Sarsgaard, Interrogation is a must-watch for fans of crime dramas and true crime stories.
