Itazura na Kiss Season 1 Episode 1 Mischievious Destiny
- April 4, 2008
Mischievous Destiny is the first episode of season one of Itazura na Kiss. The show follows the life of a high school girl named Kotoko Aihara, who has a crush on her smart and popular senior, Naoki Irie. On the day of her high school entrance exams, Kotoko finally musters the courage to give Naoki a love letter, but he coldly rejects her in front of her entire class.
Devastated by Naoki's rejection, Kotoko decides to give up on her crush and focus on her studies instead. However, fate has something else in store for her. That same day, Kotoko's home is destroyed in an earthquake, and her family is forced to move in with her father's old friend. Unbeknownst to Kotoko, this friend happens to be Naoki's father.
Now living under the same roof as Naoki, Kotoko finds herself thrown into close proximity with the boy who broke her heart. And to make matters worse, Naoki seems to enjoy teasing her and playing pranks on her. Despite all of this, Kotoko can't help but feel drawn to Naoki.
As Kotoko tries to adjust to her new living situation, she begins to develop a better understanding of Naoki. She learns that he is a genius with an IQ of 200, but that he can be cold and distant towards others. Despite this, she can't help but be intrigued by him.
Kotoko's school life also begins to improve as she makes new friends, including her new housemate, Yuuki Irie, Naoki's younger brother. Yuuki is kind, outgoing, and supportive of Kotoko, and soon the two become good friends. Kotoko also starts to excel academically, thanks in part to Naoki's tutoring, which he provides begrudgingly.
As the first episode comes to a close, Kotoko finds herself in the unexpected position of being asked to tutor Naoki's swim team. Though she initially resists, she eventually agrees, and finds herself spending more time with Naoki. As she gets to know him better, she begins to see that there might be more to him than meets the eye.
Mischievous Destiny is a heartwarming and funny first episode that sets up the central conflict of the series: Kotoko's unrequited love for Naoki. The episode does an excellent job of introducing the main characters and their relationships, as well as the central setting of the Irie household. It also gives viewers a taste of the show's lighthearted humor, which is a big part of its charm.
Overall, Mischievous Destiny is a great introduction to Itazura na Kiss and a promising start to the first season. Viewers are sure to be drawn in by the charming characters and witty dialogue, and will no doubt be eager to see what happens next in the complicated relationship between Kotoko and Naoki.
