Ep 12. Looking for Mr. Goodbrain, Part 1

After suffering multiple personal losses, including the death of her boyfriend and her own transformation into a zombie, Seattle medical examiner Liv Moore has developed an unusual way of coping: by eating brains. Consuming the brains of murder victims as part of her job provides her with visions that help solve their cases, and also allows her to temporarily absorb their personalities and abilities. With the help of her boss Ravi and detective Babineaux, Liv has managed to keep this secret from the rest of the world while trying to find a cure for her condition.

In season 3, Liv and her friends are faced with a new threat: a zombie conspiracy called Fillmore-Graves, which seeks to establish a separate zombie society in Seattle. While Liv is initially attracted to the idea of living among her own kind, she soon realizes that Fillmore-Graves' methods, which include brain rationing and strict control over zombie behavior, might not be the best approach. Meanwhile, Liv's ex-fiancé Major is working for Fillmore-Graves as a human recruit, but struggles with his loyalties as he tries to protect his zombie friends.

In episode 12, titled "Looking for Mr. Goodbrain, Part 1," Liv and the gang are reeling from the recent events that have rocked their world. With the city on the verge of all-out war between zombies and humans, Liv needs to focus on finding a way to prevent the violence from escalating. However, her personal life is also in a state of upheaval: she has just learned that her on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin is actually a zombie working for Fillmore-Graves, and that he had been spying on her all along. Liv is devastated by this betrayal, but has to put her feelings aside to deal with the bigger picture.

As usual, Liv and Ravi get a new brain to eat from the morgue, but this time it's not a murder victim: it's the brain of a rich, eccentric old man named Wally who died of natural causes. Wally was a frequent visitor to a high-end escort service, and was known for his kinks and fetishes. Liv and Ravi aren't sure what to expect from this brain, but Liv is surprised to find that she can relate to Wally's desires and enjoys exploring his fantasies. However, this brain also comes with some unintended consequences, as Liv starts to act out in inappropriate ways and alienates her friends.

Meanwhile, Major is struggling to keep his cover intact as he goes through Fillmore-Graves' intense training program for human recruits. He's forced to undergo brutal physical and psychological tests, and is constantly monitored by his zombie superiors. Major also has to deal with the fact that he's attracted to his zombie supervisor Shawna, even though he knows it's a bad idea. When a new recruit named Russ starts to cause trouble for Major and the other humans, Major has to decide whether to follow orders or help his friends.

As the episode progresses, tensions rise between humans and zombies, with both sides making moves to further their agendas. Liv and Ravi uncover a new piece of the zombie conspiracy puzzle, but it's not good news: they find out that Fillmore-Graves has been secretly turning civilians into zombies by infecting them with tainted Utopium drugs. With the knowledge that there are now hundreds of new zombies out there, Liv and Ravi scramble to find a way to stop the outbreak before it's too late.

The episode ends with a shocking twist that sets up the second half of the season: a beloved character is killed, sending Liv and her friends on a path of revenge against Fillmore-Graves. As always, "iZombie" mixes humor, horror, and heart in equal measure, delivering a smart and entertaining episode that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
