In the second episode of Jack Taylor season 2, titled "Priest," we find the eponymous detective still struggling with the aftermath of his last case, and the personal demons that haunt him. The episode opens with a bang, as a well-liked local priest is found murdered in his own church.

Father Malachy, the victim, was known for his support of a controversial program to assist ex-convicts in starting new lives, which has drawn the ire of some of the more traditional parishioners. As Jack and his friend, Garda Kate Noonan, begin their investigation, they quickly find themselves running up against a wall of silence from many of the churchgoers and residents of the tight-knit community.

But when Jack uncovers some shocking secrets about Father Malachy's past, it becomes clear that almost everyone has a motive for the murder. Was the priest killed because of his support for ex-convicts, his unorthodox methods of fund-raising, or something even darker? And as the list of potential suspects grows, Jack races against time to solve the case before more blood is shed.

While the mystery of "Priest" is engrossing and well-paced, what truly sets this episode apart is the emotional character development of Jack Taylor. As he delves deeper into the case, Jack is forced to confront the demons that have haunted him since the tragic death of his wife and daughter. His relationships with Kate and his best friend, Darragh, become strained as he wrestles with guilt, grief, and the knowledge that he may not be cut out for the life of a detective.

As always, Iain Glen gives a tour-de-force performance as Jack, balancing the character's gruff exterior with a raw vulnerability that makes him all the more compelling. Nora-Jane Noone also shines as Kate, bringing a tough-as-nails attitude and a much-needed dose of humor to the proceedings. And newcomer Killian Scott turns in a standout performance as Father Malachy's protégé, a young ex-convict who may hold the key to the case.

"Priest" is a must-watch episode for fans of crime dramas and character-driven storytelling alike. With its intriguing mystery, complex characters, and stunning Irish scenery, it's a testament to the power of the genre and the talent of its performers.
