Jann season 1 episode 3, titled "Weekend at Charley's", follows the main character Jann Arden (played by herself) as she visits her sister-in-law Charley (played by Elena Juatco) at her cottage for a weekend getaway. Jann is accompanied by her manager Todd (played by Jason Blicker), who is trying to convince her to do a corporate gig that she's not interested in.
As soon as they arrive at Charley's cottage, Jann realizes that it's not going to be the relaxing weekend she was hoping for. Charley's husband is away on business, and Charley is struggling to take care of their three kids on her own. Jann, who doesn't have kids of her own, is a bit overwhelmed by the chaos of the household, but she's determined to help her sister-in-law in any way she can.
Meanwhile, Todd is trying to find a way to convince Jann to do the corporate gig. He's arranged for a meeting with the client, and he's hoping that being in such a beautiful, peaceful setting will help Jann see the value in doing the gig. But Jann is resistant, and their argument about it creates tension between them.
As the weekend progresses, Jann bonds with Charley's kids and tries to help out around the cottage. She also has some heart-to-heart conversations with Charley about the struggles of being a mother and the challenges of maintaining a marriage. These conversations help Jann see that her own priorities may need to shift a bit if she wants to be happy.
Meanwhile, Todd's attempt to convince Jann to do the gig backfires when the client turns out to be pompous and insulting. Jann storms out of the meeting and decides that she's not going to compromise her artistic integrity just to make a quick buck. This decision brings Jann and Todd back onto the same page and repairs their relationship.
The episode concludes with Jann realizing that she's actually had a great time at Charley's cottage, despite the chaos and stress. She decides that she wants to spend more time with her family and embrace a different kind of life, one that doesn't involve constantly touring and performing. The episode ends with Jann and Charley toasting to sisterhood, friendship, and the importance of taking time for oneself.
