Jann, the Canadian sitcom series, follows the life of a fictionalized version of Canadian singer Jann Arden and her struggling music career. In season 1 episode 6, titled "WWJD (What Will Jann Do?)", Jann’s life continues to escalate in hectic and humorous fashion as she’s forced to shift her priorities and make some life-changing decisions.

The episode begins with Jann receiving the news that her beloved mother, Nora, has passed away. Emotionally devastated, Jann struggles to cope with her loss, leaving her unable to focus on anything else. Her friends and family try to lift her mood, but nothing seems to work. Desperate to find a way out of her sorrow, Jann consults a psychic, hoping to make contact with her mother in the afterlife.

But things don't go as planned, as the psychic tells her that she needs to write a song to lift her spirits and honor her mother’s memory. Jann is devastated, finding it difficult to pick up a pen and write something. She’s struggling between the need to grieve and the need to move forward. Her sister reminds her that Nora was always her biggest fan, and the psychic is right, she should write this song for Nora. But she has no idea what to write about, worried that any decision she makes in this fragile state might not be the right one.

Jann gets frustrated and seeks solace in getting high. Her friends, worried about her well-being, try to intervene only to have it backfire and escalate the situation. The scene highlights Jann's desperation for meaning and a sense of purpose, her sorrow, and her need to retreat when things become overwhelmingly painful.

The episode then takes an unexpected turn when Jann's ex-boyfriend, Mark, arrives in town and rekindles their romance, leaving Jann more confused than ever. Mark proposes to Jann, which leads to more doubts and reflection on her life. In the end, Jann makes some tough choices, including the song’s content, her love life, and how to move forward.

Overall, "WWJD (What Will Jann Do?)" highlights the cast's tremendous talents and the subtle balance of emotions, comedy, and drama that the show juggles so well. The death of Jann’s mother is a relatable experience and the episode does well to show how different people handle grief. Jann’s journey in this particular episode reminds the viewers that grief is a personal journey, and that’s okay. The episode ends on a high note, leaving viewers excited to see what the rest of the season has in store.
