In the twelfth and final episode of the first season of KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS, titled "Kotetsujyo," the surviving members of the Kotetsujyo look to protect their fortress and their people from the relentless Kabane, who have grown in numbers and ferocity. The Kabane army has set their sights on the fortress as their next target, and the humans must rely on their wits and weapons to fend them off.
The episode begins with Ikoma, Mumei, and Takumi preparing to face the Kabane army, which is quickly approaching the fortress. Knowing that they are outnumbered and outgunned, the trio devises a plan to sabotage the enemy's weapons and blow up the Kabane's fuel supply. Meanwhile, Ayame and Kurusu work to evacuate the remaining civilians, including the children, to safety.
As the battle commences, the Katoban arrives with reinforcements, but it quickly becomes apparent that their weapons are ineffective against the newer, faster, and stronger Kabane. Ikoma hatches a daring plan involving a bullet train to lure the Kabane out of the fortress and into a tunnel, where they can use explosives to collapse the ceiling and crush the enemy beneath it. However, the situation quickly spirals out of control, and the humans soon find themselves fighting for their lives in a desperate battle for survival.
As the dust settles, the humans emerge victorious but at a great cost. Lives are lost, and the fortress is damaged beyond repair. However, there is a glimmer of hope as the survivors set their sights on rebuilding and uniting against a common enemy: the Kabane.
In the finale of the first season, "Kotetsujyo" brings the story full circle with an epic and satisfying conclusion that showcases the characters' growth, bravery, and resilience. It highlights the importance of unity and determination, and the consequences of both selflessness and selfishness. With stunning animation, pulse-pounding action, and a cliffhanger ending, "Kotetsujyo" sets the stage for an exciting continuation of the story in future seasons.
