Kevin Can Wait season 1 episode 2, titled "Sleep Disorder," follows Kevin Gable, a recently retired police officer who is still trying to adjust to life at home. In this episode, Kevin's inability to get a good night's sleep is starting to affect his ability to function during the day. His wife, Donna, encourages him to see a doctor to find out if he has a sleep disorder.
Kevin is initially resistant to the idea, but eventually agrees to go. He meets with Dr. Clancy, a sleep specialist, who runs him through a series of tests to determine if he has sleep apnea. Kevin is surprised to learn that he does, in fact, have the disorder. Dr. Clancy explains that sleep apnea can be serious if left untreated, and recommends that Kevin start using a CPAP machine while he sleeps.
Kevin is hesitant to use the machine, but Donna encourages him to give it a try. The first night he uses it, he is amazed at how much better he feels in the morning. He is more alert and energized, and is able to get through the day without feeling exhausted. Kevin is grateful to Donna for urging him to get help, and decides to surprise her by cooking her favorite meal for dinner.
Meanwhile, Kevin's oldest daughter, Kendra, is dealing with her own sleep issues. She's been having nightmares since starting college, and is struggling to deal with the stress of her new environment. Kendra confides in her younger brother, Jack, who suggests she try meditating. Kendra is skeptical, but eventually gives it a try and finds that it helps her to relax and get a better night's sleep.
Throughout the episode, Kevin's friends and former colleagues, Duffy and Mott, drop in to check on him. They're surprised to see that he's retired and now spending his days at home with his family. Duffy and Mott are also surprised by Kevin's new habit of making smoothies every morning, but they quickly become fans of his creations.
The episode concludes with Kevin falling asleep easily and peacefully thanks to the CPAP machine, while Donna enjoys the meal he's cooked for her. Kendra is able to get a good night's sleep thanks to meditation, and Jack is happy to see his family getting along so well. Overall, "Sleep Disorder" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the importance of taking care of oneself and looking out for loved ones.
