- 30 Seasons
The Kids' Choice Awards is an annual award program that is unique because the winners are chosen by voting conducted by cable network, Nickelodeon. The awards are given in all fields of entertainment including music, television and movies. This awards show debuted in 1988. The original event was hosted by Tony Danza, Debbie Gibson, Dan Schneider and Brian Robbins. The very first Kids' Choice Awards winners included Eddie Murphy, Madonna, Los Lobos and Whoopi Goldberg. The awards show has changed and evolved over the years. The constants over the years were the basic awards and the format which features a few live performances and one or more celebrities getting slimed. The slime dousing is usually reserved for special celebrities or the show's finale. It is the act of getting a big tub of green goo poured over their heads. The award itself also hasn't changed. The trophy is an orange hollow blimp that is a working kaleidoscope. The list of celebrities to host the show has varied over the years. Rosie O'Donnell hosted 4 different times throughout the years. Other notable hosts were Jack Black, Duane Johnson, Whitney Houston, Paula Abdul and Tori Spelling. Since 2009 the show has also featured a special world record slime stunt. The stunts have changed over the years but included stuntmen doing tricks such as skateboarding and BMX bike jumps. The jumps were usually over or into slime. In 2001 the show started awarding the Wannabe award. This award went to the best celebrity role model for that year. Those winners included Tom Cruise, Janet Jackson, Chris Rock, Cameron Diaz and Queen Latifah. In 2009 this award was changed to The Big Green award. It now rewards celebrities who help the environment. The winners of the Big Green were Leonardo DiCaprio, Michelle Obama, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift. The 2012 Kids' Choice Awards show was hosted by Will Smith. The awards winners this year included Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Kristen Stewart.
