Kidsongs is a 30 minute live action entertainment program that spanned several different incarnations over the years. It has shown on four different networks but with the same concept and in some cases even the same video clips. The show features a variety of songs from all different decades and genres of music. The cast of kids changed from year to year but the show always featured a countdown of music hits performed by the child performers. The kids would host each segment introducing that particular song and then they would show the music video for that song. Most of the featured songs were child classics like Waltzing Matilda, Wild Blue Yonder, Dem Bones, Turkey in the Straw, This Old Man, You're a Grand Old Flag and Yankee Doodle Boy. But they also put their own spin on modern hits like Achy Breaky Heart and Locomotion. There were also multiple holiday specials that featured Christmas carols. The show would also have an educational component that focused on the arts such as singing, playing musical instruments, reading sheet music and dancing. They would also have occasional musician guests and special stars such as Olympic Gold Medal winning gymnast Kerri Strug. The storyline behind the show is that the kidsong kids find an abandoned TV studio and refurbish it to be able to put on their show. They are helped along by a pair of animated blue monsters Billy Biggle and Ruby Biggle. The kids would operate all of the camera equipment and would direct and host the episode. The show's original cast featured a group of 20 kids who rotated in the video performances. Star of the show The Wonder Years, Danica McKellar, was one of the original Kidsongs kids.
