In Kill la Kill season 1 episode 8, titled "I'll Wipe My Own Tears," the students of Honnouji Academy are given a rare day off from their intense training and battles. However, Ryuko Matoi decides to use this opportunity to continue her search for the truth behind her father's murder.
Ryuko visits the graveyard where her father is buried and encounters a mysterious girl named Mako, who is crying over her own father's gravestone. Ryuko sympathizes with Mako's pain and decides to help her feel better by taking her to a bathhouse for a relaxing bath.
During their bath, Mako opens up to Ryuko about her family's financial struggles and how her father sacrificed everything to provide for them. Mako also reveals that she has been keeping a secret from her best friend, the Academy's student council president Satsuki Kiryuin.
Meanwhile, Satsuki and her loyal followers are seen discussing their next move to take down Ryuko and her allies, the Nudist Beach organization. Satsuki believes that the key to defeating Ryuko lies in finding her weakness, which she suspects is her attachment to her deceased father.
Back at the bathhouse, Ryuko and Mako are approached by a group of men who work for a rival school. The men challenge Ryuko to a fight, but she refuses as she realizes that they are outnumbered. However, Mako decides to take matters into her own hands and stands up to the bullies, showing a surprising amount of strength and bravery.
After the fight, Ryuko and Mako make amends and Ryuko admits that she has been keeping a secret from her as well. She reveals that she is searching for the other half of her father's invention, Scissor Blade, which she believes will lead her to his killer.
As the episode comes to a close, Satsuki is seen approaching the other half of Scissor Blade, a student named Nonon Jakuzure. Satsuki questions Nonon about her loyalty to Honnouji Academy and warns her that she will not tolerate any betrayals.
"I'll Wipe My Own Tears" is a character-driven episode that explores the emotional struggles of its two main female characters, Ryuko and Mako. It also serves as a breather episode from the intense battles and action that have been prominent throughout the series so far. The episode ends on a suspenseful note, suggesting that the stakes will only continue to rise as the story progresses.
