In Kiss Him, Not Me season 1 episode 5, titled "Back to My Original Self! What Should I Do?", our protagonist Kae Serinuma is feeling down about her recent weight gain. She's been avoiding school and spending her days at home, until her friends Asuma and Shinomiya come over to visit and offer to take her out for some shopping therapy.
At the mall, Kae gets separated from her friends and runs into her classmate Igarashi, who asks her out on a date. Kae is ecstatic at first, but then realizes she doesn't want to go out with him while feeling insecure about her appearance.
Later, Kae takes a bath and notices that her fingers have shrunk back to their original size. Confused and a bit frightened, she goes to bed and wakes up the next morning to find that she's lost all the weight she gained and is back to her previous self.
Excited to show off her new body, Kae heads to school where she's bombarded with attention from her classmates, especially Igarashi who can't seem to take his eyes off of her. But with her body back to its original form, Kae isn't sure if she's ready for all the attention and decides to take a step back and gather her thoughts.
Meanwhile, Asuma and Shinomiya are trying to figure out what happened to Kae and are convinced there's more to it than just a sudden weight loss. They do some investigating and come to the conclusion that Kae's recent diet of only salads and water had an adverse effect on her body, causing her to temporarily gain weight before losing it all again. Relieved that there's a logical explanation for Kae's transformation, they head to school to share the news with her.
Back at school, Kae is struggling with her newfound popularity and the attention of all the boys who suddenly find her attractive. She confides in Igarashi, who tells her that he's always found her beautiful no matter her weight and urges her to be true to herself.
With Igarashi's support, Kae decides to embrace her original self and dress the way she wants without worrying about others' opinions. She even comes up with a new nickname for herself that celebrates her love of anime and cosplay, which she proudly announces to her friends and classmates.
As the episode comes to a close, Kae is back to her confident, bubbly self and excited for what the future holds. The message of the episode is clear: true beauty comes from within, and it's important to love and accept yourself for who you are.
