Lavalantula is a SyFy original movie that premiered in 2015, starring Steve Guttenberg, Nia Peeples, and Patrick Renna. The film follows Colton West, a washed-up action movie star, who must team up with his old co-star, a rogue cop, and his daughter to fight off a horde of fire-breathing spiders that have taken over Los Angeles.

The film begins with a volcanic eruption that unleashes a swarm of giant, deadly spiders, known as Lavalantulas. Colton West, played by Steve Guttenberg, is a washed-up movie star who is struggling to find his next big role. He is estranged from his daughter, Raya, played by Raya Sereny, who is a college student studying seismology.

After the Lavalantulas attack, Colton and Raya team up with his old co-star, Marty, played by Michael Winslow, and a rogue cop, played by Nia Peeples, to try and save the city. Together, they must outrun, outsmart, and outmaneuver the deadly spiders that are taking over the streets of Los Angeles.

As they travel the city, the team encounters other survivors and must decide whether to help them or leave them behind to fend for themselves. The group faces many challenges along the way, including running out of gas, getting stuck in traffic, and navigating through the spider-infested underground tunnels.

Throughout the film, Colton struggles to reconnect with his daughter and prove that he is still a hero. Raya, on the other hand, is dealing with her own issues, including a complicated love triangle and the pressure to live up to her father's expectations.

The special effects in the film are surprisingly well done for a made-for-TV movie, with the Lavalantulas looking menacing and realistic. The Spider attack scenes are intense, with the spiders devouring anyone in their path. Despite the film's ridiculous premise, it's hard not to root for the characters as they battle the spiders.

The film also has a few nods to Steve Guttenberg's past films, including a scene where he drops the famous line "Don't move, idiot!" from his classic Police Academy films.

Aside from the campy storyline, the film's biggest strength lies in its cast. Steve Guttenberg is a charming leading man, and his chemistry with Nia Peeples and Patrick Renna is palpable. Michael Winslow steals every scene he is in with his trademark sound effects, and Raya Sereny brings a fresh perspective to the team with her scientific knowledge.

Overall, Lavalantula is a fun, action-packed, and surprisingly well-made movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a great way to spend an evening with friends and was successful enough to spawn a sequel, 2 Lava 2 Lantula!, which premiered in 2016. If you're in the mood for a ridiculous, over-the-top, and entertaining movie, Lavalantula is a must-watch.
